Membership Information
If you are a professional
astronomer, astrophysicist, a student studying astronomy
or related fields, or an enthusiast with a keen
interest in astronomy, we invite you to become a member of
the Astronomical League of the Philippines. Membership
to the Society means affiliation with the
Philippines' leading scientific community promoting astronomy
and related sciences.
The Astronomical League of the Philippines is the
country's most
prestigious and respected
astronomical organization for professional and
non-academically prepared
astronomers. Established in 2003, the Society's
main objective is to foster observational astronomy,
astronomical imaging and instrumentation, and the development of astronomy
education and research in the country.
Membership to the Society is open to any
individual who is interested in the science of Astronomy and
related fields, such as observational astronomy, imaging
and instrumentation techniques, astronomy education, and
advanced astrophysics & cosmology.
Types of Membership
- Regular Members
Professional and non-academically prepared
astronomers who have met the qualifications set
forth by the
Society and have paid the annual dues for the current year.
- Honorary Members
The Society confers honorary membership
to deserving individuals who have contributed to the
advancement of astronomy, both locally and
internationally.
Membership Benefits
As a member of the society, you will be given access
to the
Member's Section of the ALP website where the
monthly newsletter, ALPha, and issues of the
Philippine Journal of Astronomy can be downloaded.
Members are also regularly updated with society
activities, such as monthly meetings and stargazing
events, through SMS and group mailing list.
As an institutional member of the Association of
Lunar and Planetary Observers, ALP members also have
free access to the quarterly issues of
The Strolling Astronomer, Journal of the
ALPO.
Lastly, being a member of the Astronomical League of
the Philippines means participating in the country's
leading scientific community promoting astronomy and
related sciences.
