ALP Monthly Meeting Report

 ALP MONTHLY MEETING REPORT

Last June 12, members of ALP held its monthly050612-a.jpg (244551 bytes) meeting at the residence of colleague Rev. Alice Villa-Real. Members who were present on the meeting were James Kevin Ty, Allen Yu, Edmund Rosales, Dante Cruz, Lea Visaya, Edgar Ang, Jett  Aguilar, Hans Gideon Cerdenia and new members Maryann Natalie Paredes and son Kim Paredes. 

The meeting started with ALP president James Kevin Ty introducing ALP newest members Maryann Natalie Paredes and 11 year old son Kim Paredes.   Welcome to ALP!  Afterwards, James start off with the discussion of ALP upcoming activities for the rainy season.  One of the main topics that was discussed was the creation of a sport fest to cater to fellow ALPers to ease their boredom during the 3-4 months of expected rainy months :(  Among the popular sport activities that were popular to the members are Billiards, Badminton, Basketball, Dart and Bowling.   These will be prepared  by both James and Allen in the coming months.

The Billiard session might be the first sport to be started probably before the end of June.  There will be 2 groups that will separate the experienced  players from the beginners so as to make the competition more competitive.  A  trophy will be given to the champion of each division. More details will be posted by James in the days to come.  The chosen venue will most likely be held at Playdium at Araneta Avenue, Q.C. The other sports will be held in the months to come so that most of the members can enjoy their favorite sport in the coming months.

Then, they discuss the topics to be discussed in the following months during the monthly meetings.  For July meeting, the following topics will be discussed:

2:00pm - Basic Astronomy -Celestial Navigation by Edmund Rosales

2:30pm - Book Review - Turn Left at Orion by Jett Aguilar

3:00pm - Advance Astronomy - Hands On Lecture on How to Use the ALP SCT scope by James Kevin Ty.

Lastly, James reiterated to the members of his desire for the ALP to try observing the disappearance and reappearance of  the Antares from the Moon (Lunar Occultation Event) on the early morning of June 21.  He have decided that the site to observe this event will be held at Nasugbu, Batangas .

The meeting ended at 5:45pm.  The next monthly meeting will be held on July 3, 2005.
