 ALP MONTHLY MEETING REPORT

February 6, 2005

Text and Images  by  James Kevin Ty

Last February 6, ALPers had their February monthly 050206-c.jpg (67236 bytes)meeting  again at the residence of Alice Villa-Real.  The meeting started at around 3:30pm.  Among those who attended the meetig were James Kevin Ty, Edmund Rosales, Melisa Bata, Angie Tan, Dante Cruz, Lea Visaya and John Lawrence Uy and Rich Pijuan.

The meeting started with James inviting Edmund and Lea to give their impression on their participation at the stargazing session held last January 21-22 at Sta Rosa Science and Technology High School.  The two of them gave their personal impression of the crowd and how they addressed it at the site.

Afterwards, James , on the suggestion of fellow ALPer Dante Cruz, touched on the topic of the planned out of town excursion that might be held during the long weekend vacation during the Holy Week that falls on March 24-28th.   Among the suggested vacation  spots were at Batangas, Hidden Valley in Alaminos, etc.  This will later be discussed in the ALP2003 mailing list for finalization of the planned trip.

Lastly, James then shared with fellow members fo what   DSOs he was able to imaged during February 5 at TGOM, Buso-Buso, Antipolo.   Among the DSOs he was able to image were Eta Carina, M64 Blackeye Galaxy, M104 Sonbrero Galaxy, M101 Pinwheel Galaxy, M83 South Pinwheel Galaxy, Leo Triplet (M65/66/NGC 3628), M97 Owl Nebula as well as M86 which is at the center of the Virgo Realm of Galaxies that he took.  On that image, members were able to count to no less than 10 galaxies on the image! :)

By the way, as the Virgo Galaxy Cluster image was shown, James invited ALPers to guess in which constellation was that image taken.  He have a multiple choice selection for the members to choose and Melisa was fortunate to answer it correctly.  And for that, James give her a simple small gift, a binocular tripod adapter so that she can help her use with her binocs to study the DSOs specially during ALP stargazing sessions.

The meeting ended at around 6:30pm.
